CIVIL WAR ERA

The 27th S.C. Volunteer Infantry will be doing a living history in connection with The Battle of Charleston. (Which will take place April April 17-19, 2009). Located at Legare Farms, Johns Island, SC.

All teachers and students are invited to this one day event. Entry Fee: $5.00 per student. This is the only civil war battle/living history in the Charleston area that is open to all schools.

The children may explore authentic period Civil War soldier's campsites and sutler's (period merchant's) tents. Other programs include: how to fire a cannon; the role of women in the war; period women's dress; how cavalry were equipped; historic music; 19th century crafts: woodworking, blacksmithing, horse care; and the role of infantry in the war. Authentic uniforms and equipment will be exhibited.

These exhibits will be placed at numbered stations. Classes may rotate at their own pace between the stations. There will be a small skirmish that will be recreated by the troops. Your kids will not want to miss this!
